Paul, our local chairperson, has lived in Woking for most of the last 40 years, only moving out to study Astrophysics and Computer Science at university.
His work representing local people has included:
- Discussing issues with future building plans with residents
- Representing community groups communicating with MPs, including a message to the Justice Secretary
- A campaign that stopped developers demolishing homes in Mount Hermon
- Collaborating with Surrey University to run an air quality monitoring system
- Helping disabled people and their families with issues like SEND schools and housing.
He has said “As a member of the community I want everyone to be heard and trust that the council has their interests at heart. As part of this I’ve signed the ‘Our Future Surrey’ pledge to support the community and the environment.
“Obviously the work I’ve done was often hard, sometimes impossible, because I have little power locally… but that doesn’t meant giving up. I’ve had to engage with different groups of people, find ways that worked for as many people as possible and come up with creative ways to tackle problems. These experiences, along with my technical skills, are things the council will need if it is going to work on the many issues it faces.”
