Harrison has said “My name is Harrison and I am one of your Green Party candidate for the local elections on the 7th May. I’ve lived in Woking for nine years and I am a teacher and business owner with a lifelong passion for conservation.
“Woking needs a fresh start, led by people with an uncompromising commitment to the area. We face a severe fiscal crisis, which the amalgamated West Surrey unitary authority will inherit.
“I want to ensure we, as residents, do not end up paying the price for past malfeasance at Woking Borough Council. The Liberal Democrats are spending a lot of money to win a ‘clean sweep’ of Woking in these elections. Such a result would be disastrous. Millennials will remember what happens when Lib Dems are put in charge of defending essential services from cuts!
“None of us wanted the council to use our taxes to make speculative property investments. It would be morally unacceptable for essential services, particularly for our more vulnerable residents, to be dismantled to clean up the Conservatives’ mess.
“Selling off important revenue streams and privatisation will only lead to further costs for residents down the line. Instead, we should be ambitious. We can improve our general financial situation by innovating and modernising how things are run. Here are some of the ways a Green council might look to accomplish this:
1) Use Community Municipal Investment to fund local projects.
2) Bring highways maintenance in-house, instead of paying contractors to do quick patch jobs on potholes.
3) Invest in local, person-centred social care, focusing on prevention and early intervention.
4) Take SEND access seriously at the outset, so that money goes to helping children, instead of to fighting and losing lawsuits.
I’m sure the Lib Dems will flood your letterbox with endless leaflets, filled with the usual bar graph chicanery, telling you that only they can beat the Tories. This tired routine insults residents’ intelligence. Neither the Conservatives nor Reform have any chance of winning here. The Green Party is surging nationally, fighting for a new kind of politics across Britain. We in Woking can do our part!
Please consider voting for me and my friend Paul Hoekstra on the 7th of May. We won’t let you down.
